A quarterly summary of timber-price trends, reporting coverage and state timber-sale activity. Detailed prices and calculations are available to subscribers.

The MI DNR stumpage price report for January to March 2026 is out: 382 price lines across 14 of 80 management units and 22 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber moved down this quarter; pulpwood moved up.

Up statewide: red pine, paper birch, red maple sawtimber. Down: white oak, sugar maple, red oak.

Up statewide: paper birch, mixed spruce, red pine pulpwood. Down: jack pine, mixed aspen, mixed oak.

Of the 118 state sales opened this quarter, 71 sold and 47 drew no bid — 40% — with 2.4 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Oct–Dec 2025) opened 140 sales, 38 no-bid — 27%; the same quarter a year earlier (Jan–Mar 2025) opened 128, 17 no-bid — 13%.
