A quarterly summary of timber-price trends, reporting coverage and state timber-sale activity. Detailed prices and calculations are available to subscribers.

The MI DNR stumpage price report for July to September 2025 is out: 450 price lines across 15 of 80 management units and 23 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber moved up this quarter; pulpwood moved up.

Up statewide: paper birch, yellow birch, white oak sawtimber. Down: basswood, white pine, black cherry.

Up statewide: paper birch, balsam fir pulpwood. Down: jack pine, red pine, white pine.

Of the 150 state sales opened this quarter, 109 sold and 41 drew no bid — 27% — with 2.6 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Apr–Jun 2025) opened 191 sales, 80 no-bid — 42%; the same quarter a year earlier (Jul–Sep 2024) opened 111, 27 no-bid — 24%.
