A quarterly summary of timber-price trends, reporting coverage and state timber-sale activity. Detailed prices and calculations are available to subscribers.

The MI DNR stumpage price report for January to March 2025 is out: 460 price lines across 15 of 80 management units and 24 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber moved down this quarter; pulpwood moved down.

Up statewide: white oak, paper birch, mixed oak sawtimber. Down: red maple, black cherry, basswood.

Up statewide: tamarack, red pine, basswood pulpwood. Down: mixed spruce, balsam fir, paper birch.

Of the 128 state sales opened this quarter, 111 sold and 17 drew no bid — 13% — with 2.6 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Oct–Dec 2024) opened 107 sales, 26 no-bid — 24%; the same quarter a year earlier (Jan–Mar 2024) opened 133, 24 no-bid — 18%.
