A quarterly summary of timber-price trends, reporting coverage and state timber-sale activity. Detailed prices and calculations are available to subscribers.

The MI DNR stumpage price report for October to December 2024 is out: 408 price lines across 14 of 80 management units and 25 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber moved up this quarter; pulpwood moved up.

Up statewide: white oak, mixed oak, red pine sawtimber. Down: basswood, white pine, red maple.

Up statewide: basswood, paper birch, balsam fir pulpwood. Down: mixed oak, mixed aspen, jack pine.

Of the 107 state sales opened this quarter, 81 sold and 26 drew no bid — 24% — with 2.8 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Jul–Sep 2024) opened 111 sales, 27 no-bid — 24%; the same quarter a year earlier (Oct–Dec 2023) opened 152, 47 no-bid — 31%.
