A quarterly summary of timber-price trends, reporting coverage and state timber-sale activity. Detailed prices and calculations are available to subscribers.

The MI DNR stumpage price report for April to June 2024 is out: 513 price lines across 15 of 80 management units and 25 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber moved down this quarter; pulpwood moved up.

Up statewide: sugar maple, mixed oak sawtimber. Down: paper birch, black cherry, red maple.

Up statewide: mixed oak, white pine pulpwood. Down: mixed spruce, jack pine, balsam fir.

Of the 144 state sales opened this quarter, 110 sold and 34 drew no bid — 24% — with 3.0 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Jan–Mar 2024) opened 133 sales, 24 no-bid — 18%; the same quarter a year earlier (Apr–Jun 2023) opened 94, 17 no-bid — 18%.
