A quarterly summary of timber-price trends, reporting coverage and state timber-sale activity. Detailed prices and calculations are available to subscribers.

The MI DNR stumpage price report for October to December 2021 is out: 493 price lines across 15 of 80 management units and 27 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber moved down this quarter; pulpwood held steady.

Up statewide: beech, paper birch, mixed oak sawtimber. Down: white pine, yellow birch, white oak.

Up statewide: mixed oak, basswood, mixed aspen pulpwood. Down: tamarack, paper birch, mixed spruce.

Of the 150 state sales opened this quarter, 135 sold and 15 drew no bid — 10% — with 3.4 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Jul–Sep 2021) opened 145 sales, 13 no-bid — 9%; the same quarter a year earlier (Oct–Dec 2020) opened 113, 12 no-bid — 11%.
