A quarterly summary of timber-price trends, reporting coverage and state timber-sale activity. Detailed prices and calculations are available to subscribers.

The MI DNR stumpage price report for July to September 2021 is out: 485 price lines across 17 of 80 management units and 26 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber moved down this quarter; pulpwood moved down.

Up statewide: paper birch, sugar maple, basswood sawtimber. Down: red pine.

Up statewide: mixed oak pulpwood. Down: mixed spruce, jack pine, white pine.

Of the 145 state sales opened this quarter, 132 sold and 13 drew no bid — 9% — with 3.2 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Apr–Jun 2021) opened 135 sales, 8 no-bid — 6%; the same quarter a year earlier (Jul–Sep 2020) opened 94, 15 no-bid — 16%.
