A quarterly summary of timber-price trends, reporting coverage and state timber-sale activity. Detailed prices and calculations are available to subscribers.

The MI DNR stumpage price report for April to June 2020 is out: 476 price lines across 15 of 80 management units and 26 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber moved down this quarter; pulpwood moved up.

Up statewide: red maple, white pine, white oak sawtimber. Down: sugar maple, mixed oak, red oak.

Up statewide: red pine, paper birch, mixed aspen pulpwood. Down: basswood, mixed oak, mixed spruce.

Of the 133 state sales opened this quarter, 122 sold and 11 drew no bid — 8% — with 3.7 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Jan–Mar 2020) opened 145 sales, 18 no-bid — 12%; the same quarter a year earlier (Apr–Jun 2019) opened 149, 32 no-bid — 21%.
