The MI DNR stumpage price report for October to December 2016 is out: 534 price lines across 15 of 80 management units and 31 species.
The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber has no reading for this quarter; pulpwood moved up.
Up statewide: mixed oak, sugar maple sawtimber. Down: red pine, red maple, red oak.
Up statewide: red maple, mixed aspen, balsam fir pulpwood. Down: red oak, quaking aspen, mixed softwood.
Of the 195 state sales opened this quarter, 155 sold, 12 carried no result on the DNR’s bid summary and 28 drew no bid (14%), with 2.9 bidders on a sold sale on average.
The previous quarter (Jul–Sep 2016) opened 162 sales, 27 no-bid (17%); the same quarter a year earlier (Oct–Dec 2015) opened 113, 16 no-bid (14%).
