The MI DNR stumpage price report for January to March 2016 is out: 373 price lines across 16 of 80 management units and 25 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber has no reading for this quarter; pulpwood moved down.

Up statewide: red maple, mixed oak, mixed aspen sawtimber. Down: sugar maple, red pine.

Up statewide: mixed oak, quaking aspen, red maple pulpwood. Down: mixed aspen, mixed softwood, red pine.

Of the 173 state sales opened this quarter, 141 sold and 32 drew no bid — 18% — with 3.8 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Oct–Dec 2015) opened 113 sales, 16 no-bid — 14%; the same quarter a year earlier (Jan–Mar 2015) opened 207, 13 no-bid — 6%.
