A quarterly summary of timber-price trends, reporting coverage and state timber-sale activity. Detailed prices and calculations are available to subscribers.

The MI DNR stumpage price report for October to December 2015 is out: 383 price lines across 14 of 80 management units and 26 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber has no reading for this quarter; pulpwood moved down.

Up statewide: red pine sawtimber. Down: mixed oak, sugar maple, red maple.

Up statewide: mixed hardwood, red pine, mixed softwood pulpwood. Down: red maple, mixed aspen.

Of the 113 state sales opened this quarter, 97 sold and 16 drew no bid — 14% — with 3.6 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Jul–Sep 2015) opened 105 sales, 12 no-bid — 11%; the same quarter a year earlier (Oct–Dec 2014) opened 98, 12 no-bid — 12%.
