A quarterly summary of timber-price trends, reporting coverage and state timber-sale activity. Detailed prices and calculations are available to subscribers.

The MI DNR stumpage price report for July to September 2015 is out: 292 price lines across 13 of 80 management units and 25 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber has no reading for this quarter; pulpwood held steady.

Up statewide: sugar maple, mixed oak sawtimber.

Up statewide: mixed softwood, mixed hardwood, mixed aspen pulpwood. Down: red pine.

Of the 105 state sales opened this quarter, 93 sold and 12 drew no bid — 11% — with 3.8 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Apr–Jun 2015) opened 174 sales, 13 no-bid — 7%; the same quarter a year earlier (Jul–Sep 2014) opened 129, 18 no-bid — 14%.
