The MI DNR stumpage price report for January to March 2014 is out: 376 price lines across 14 of 80 management units and 29 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber has no reading for this quarter; pulpwood moved up.

Up statewide: mixed oak, sugar maple, red maple sawtimber. Down: red pine.

Up statewide: mixed softwood, quaking aspen pulpwood. Down: red maple, mixed oak, jack pine.

Of the 169 state sales opened this quarter, 146 sold and 23 drew no bid — 14% — with 3.7 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Oct–Dec 2013) opened 144 sales, 38 no-bid — 26%; the same quarter a year earlier (Jan–Mar 2013) opened 166, 18 no-bid — 11%.
