The MI DNR stumpage price report for January to March 2013 is out: 403 price lines across 14 of 80 management units and 25 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber has no reading for this quarter; pulpwood moved up.

Down statewide: red oak, mixed aspen, red pine sawtimber.

Up statewide: jack pine, mixed softwood, quaking aspen pulpwood. Down: mixed oak, red pine, red maple.

Of the 166 state sales opened this quarter, 148 sold and 18 drew no bid — 11% — with 2.7 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Oct–Dec 2012) opened 181 sales, 20 no-bid — 11%; the same quarter a year earlier (Jan–Mar 2012) opened 166, 8 no-bid — 5%.
