The MI DNR stumpage price report for January to March 2012 is out: 388 price lines across 14 of 80 management units and 24 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber has no reading for this quarter; pulpwood moved up.

Up statewide: red pine, sugar maple, red oak sawtimber. Down: red maple.

Up statewide: red pine, mixed hardwood, mixed aspen pulpwood. Down: mixed softwood, mixed oak, jack pine.

Of the 166 state sales opened this quarter, 158 sold and 8 drew no bid — 5% — with 4.6 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Oct–Dec 2011) opened 122 sales, 2 no-bid — 2%; the same quarter a year earlier (Jan–Mar 2011) opened 111, 2 no-bid — 2%.
