A quarterly summary of timber-price trends, reporting coverage and state timber-sale activity. Detailed prices and calculations are available to subscribers.

The MI DNR stumpage price report for April to June 2011 is out: 418 price lines across 15 of 80 management units and 26 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber has no reading for this quarter; pulpwood moved up.

Up statewide: mixed aspen, red pine, red oak sawtimber. Down: mixed oak, sugar maple.

Up statewide: mixed oak, mixed softwood, red pine pulpwood. Down: white pine, paper birch.

Of the 231 state sales opened this quarter, 227 sold, 1 carried no result on the DNR’s bid summary and 3 drew no bid — 1% — with 6.2 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Jan–Mar 2011) opened 111 sales, 2 no-bid — 2%; the same quarter a year earlier (Apr–Jun 2010) opened 217, 7 no-bid — 3%.
