The MI DNR stumpage price report for January to March 2011 is out: 329 price lines across 14 of 80 management units and 24 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber has no reading for this quarter; pulpwood moved down.

Up statewide: red maple, red pine, red oak sawtimber. Down: sugar maple.

Up statewide: mixed oak, jack pine, bigtooth aspen pulpwood. Down: mixed hardwood.

Of the 111 state sales opened this quarter, 109 sold and 2 drew no bid — 2% — with 5.3 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Oct–Dec 2010) opened 131 sales, 4 no-bid — 3%; the same quarter a year earlier (Jan–Mar 2010) opened 208, 10 no-bid — 5%.
