The MI DNR stumpage price report for October to December 2010 is out: 310 price lines across 14 of 80 management units and 20 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber has no reading for this quarter; pulpwood moved up.

Up statewide: sugar maple, red pine sawtimber.

Up statewide: red maple, mixed hardwood, mixed aspen pulpwood. Down: quaking aspen.

Of the 131 state sales opened this quarter, 127 sold and 4 drew no bid — 3% — with 5.4 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Jul–Sep 2010) opened 127 sales, 3 no-bid — 2%; the same quarter a year earlier (Oct–Dec 2009) opened 151, 17 no-bid — 11%.
