A quarterly summary of timber-price trends, reporting coverage and state timber-sale activity. Detailed prices and calculations are available to subscribers.

The MI DNR stumpage price report for April to June 2008 is out: 336 price lines across 14 of 80 management units and 21 species.

The Michigan Timber Index for sawtimber has no reading for this quarter; pulpwood moved up.

Up statewide: red oak, red pine sawtimber. Down: sugar maple, red maple, mixed oak.

Up statewide: mixed aspen, mixed hardwood, mixed softwood pulpwood. Down: red maple, bigtooth aspen, jack pine.

Of the 178 state sales opened this quarter, 167 sold and 11 drew no bid — 6% — with 4.3 bidders on a sold sale on average.

The previous quarter (Jan–Mar 2008) opened 181 sales, 11 no-bid — 6%; the same quarter a year earlier (Apr–Jun 2007) opened 290, 76 no-bid — 26%.
